ADDRESSES PROXY SOLICITATION Startec Inc., a leading provider of waste-to-energy solutions, announced that the management of the Company does not support nor endorse the proxy solicitation effort being undertaken by Brookline Associates, Inc ("Brookline"). Brookline is seeking to obtain an "Irrevocable Proxy Coupled with an Interest" from shareholders of the Company in order take control of the Company. The proxy would give Brookline the option to purchase a portion of the participating shareholders shares for three years. Brookline is offering no consideration or compensation for this option. "Startec continues to work diligently and explore alternative sales prospects of certain assets of the company," said Don Cullen, president and CEO, Startec, Inc. "We anticipate sharing additional details on our strategic direction with our shareholders in the near future and remain confident in our ability to deliver long-term value for our shareholders." The Company at one time pursued discussions with Brookline relating to project financing and other corporate finance issues, but elected not to do business with nor enter into any relationship with Brookline.
